Travel by plane

Travel by Boat

There are four ferry routes to choose from:-

Scrabster (near Thurso) – Stromness, Orkney takes 90 minutes

Aberdeen – Kirkwall, Orkney takes 6 hours

Gills Bay (near John O’Groats) – St Margaret’s Hope, Orkney takes 60 minutes

John O’Groats – Burwick, Orkney takes 40 minutes and operates from May – September but is for foot passengers only. There is an Orkney Bus between Inverness & Orkney which links to the ferry timetable and can be booked on the below site.

Travel by Bus

The Citylink network takes you to Scrabster, Gills Bay or John O’Groats for ferry services to Orkney.
